I am so happy that I picked up the phone and engaged James’ help. I have struggled for 28 years with anxiety and rage issues. After about 30 minutes with James, I could let go of all of that nasty emotion. I can’t tell you how amazing it felt.

I was very anxious before my first session. I have a stutter, so my anxiety made it even worse. James was awesome and gave me the tools I needed to stay calm and overcome the trauma I felt from my stuttering experiences in the past. The sessions exceeded my expectations.

James was recommended to me after struggling with anxiety issues stemming from burnout. He explained the rationale and expected outcomes – and it has worked for me. Would thoroughly recommend Fix My Mind!

Hypnotherapy for Anxiety in London, Online & Hampshire

Are you one of the millions of people affected by anxiety? If so, you'll know how deeply it can affect your wellbeing and quality of life.

What you may not know is that hypnotherapy has a great track record when it comes to helping people just like you. I see how effective this powerful, proven approach can be every day when working with clients. I’m not exaggerating when I say that hypnotherapy can change your life.

For the past 16 years, I have worked as a clinical hypnotherapist in London, Winchester and online. I have helped thousands of people to break free of the stresses and worries that hold them back.

And the vast majority of people I’ve worked with only need two sessions.

Hypnotherapy is different to other types of treatment. It seeks to gently ‘rewire’ your anxiety so that the things that once bothered you no longer do so – or not as profoundly as they once did.

Anxiety doesn’t just spontaneously change, and unless you do something about it, I’m afraid it’s highly likely you’ll stay the same as you are now.

But you can do something about your stress and anxiety. When you try hypnotherapy, you’ll see that it’s fast and risk-free, and it can also be done over Zoom if you’d prefer to do it that way.

Hypnotherapy for anxiety may well be able to help you start living the life you want to live.

I look forward to helping you be calmer and more relaxed.

James

Helping people with anxiety disorders

For nearly two decades, I have been providing safe, effective anxiety hypnotherapy to thousands of people. I have gained over 100 five-star reviews from happy clients in the process.

Clinical hypnotherapy can help you overcome your fears and worries, and it can stop you catastrophising and playing out worst-case scenarios in your head.

To help you find out if hypnotherapy is right for you, I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation. It's the perfect chance for you to ask me whatever you like about hypnotherapy.

It also gives me the opportunity to decide if I feel confident I can help. If I can't – or if I don't feel that hypnotherapy is the best way to treat your anxiety – I will say so.

Only when both you and I agree that hypnotherapy has a strong chance of success will we proceed.

What is anxiety?

The NHS defines anxiety as "a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe."

That's a pretty good definition – but it doesn't quite cover the distress, hopelessness and multitude of physical sensations that can overwhelm you when anxiety strikes.

We like to think that we're totally in control of our minds, but that's rarely the case. The brain is incredibly complex, and when you suffer from anxiety, two separate issues commonly arise.

The first concerns your prefrontal cortex, where dysfunction can lead to difficulties in controlling thoughts and behaviours.

The second issue arises when the amygdala – a small, walnut-sized part of the brain – misinterprets information it receives. In simple terms, the amygdala perceives something as a threat when it actually isn't.

In less than a second, your primal, millennia-old 'fight, flight or freeze' response kicks in, causing a flood of very unwelcome hormones throughout your body.

Isn't anxiety perfectly normal?

No. Everyone feels anxious some of the time, but anxiety becomes an issue when worry starts to take over your life.

Your anxiety could be caused by something you are frightened of, a phobia, or fears relating to public speaking. Additionally, you may have had panic attacks, money problems, health issues, and a hundred other things that can cause profound worry.

Specific traumatic events are a common cause, too. Hypnotherapy can help in many cases.

What is hypnotherapy?

Since 1958, hypnotherapy has been recognised by the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association as a valid medical procedure.

Treatment with me takes place in private, one-to-one sessions, either in person or online. I will lead you to a heightened state of concentration and attention, during which we will work on your anxiety responses.

It's nothing like you see on TV. You will be awake and fully aware of what's happening throughout.

During our session, I will use different hypnotherapeutic techniques to help you achieve positive behavioural changes by adjusting how your mind responds to things.

We'll swap your 'anxious trance' – the state you slip into unconsciously when faced with whatever bothers you – for a calmer state of mind that overrides your old response.

In other words, I'll be working to put your mind on a brand new track the next time you're faced with your old fear or worry.

Does hypnotherapy work for anxiety? And if so – why does it work?

Yes! It works. Please check out some of my Google reviews and testimonials for first-hand proof of its life-changing possibilities.

Why does hypnotherapy work? Because the powerful hypnotherapeutic methods I use enable me to deal with the events that have made you anxious. Just like antibiotics will address an infection, hypnotherapy can 'fix' the mind so that it stops slipping back into old ways of thinking and reacting.

Anxiety UK states that hypnosis allows the subject (the person who is being treated) to experience "often quite deep levels of relaxation and so helps to reduce levels of stress and anxiety."

Based on my many years of experience, I believe the key to successful anxiety hypnosis lies in the client's openness to change and the therapist's skill at helping them find new responses to things that have been challenging them.

Clients choose me because I get results quickly. I'm also accredited by the CNCH (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council), the GHR (General Hypnotherapy Register), the ANLP (Association for Neuro Linguistic Programming) and the National Hypnotherapy Society.

Additionally, I have completed more than 2,000 hours of training and conducted more than 5,500 sessions of hypnotherapy.

What happens during an anxiety hypnotherapy session?

Before your session, I'll ask you to fill in a questionnaire that will help me understand your patterns of anxiety. This allows me to tailor your treatment so that we maximise your chances of success.

Over the course of your session, you'll feel calm and in control, and I’ll use a combination of the most effective hypnotherapeutic tools and techniques to address your anxiety issues. One that works especially well is Havening.

How to book your hypnotherapy treatment for anxiety

I know that signing up for a session can feel like a big step – so why not make use of my free consultation to see if it's right for you?

I hope that what you've read on this page has helped you to feel more reassured about the hypnotherapy process.

If you feel ready to take the next step to become calmer, each session we'll have together will be up to 90 minutes long. It means we'll achieve so much more than in the traditional 50-minute ‘therapy hour’ that most therapists provide.

For many clients, online hypnotherapy sessions are the quickest and easiest way to address a specific problem and get the treatment they need. Or we could meet at my offices in London and Winchester – whichever works best for you.

A special offer from my hypnotherapy practice to you

I’m currently reducing my fees by 10% to only £290 + VAT per session. I have very limited availability, and if you’d like to know more about how I may be able to help you, then please get in touch today.

I will put 100% effort into working with you, and the techniques I use are powerful. As with all therapy types, success varies from client to client and there can be no guarantees. In fact, I’d run a mile from a hypnotherapist who says they offer a guarantee.

Why choose me as your hypnotherapist

I became a hypnotherapist because of a life-changing hypnotherapy session of my own in 2006. This helped me to re-find myself and discover new hope. So, whatever you’re feeling now, I’ve been in a similar place.
Experience
I am an expert at dealing with anxiety and have completed more than 5,000 sessions of hypnosis.
Chemistry
I only work with clients that I believe I can help, want to help and have a good chemistry with. This means your therapy is more likely to be effective.
Speed
Most clients need just two sessions to see a significant improvement. This is quicker than virtually any other therapist.
Reassurance
I am one of the UK’s most reviewed therapists. More than 90% of clients give me a 5-star review.
Trust
Before I saw my very first client over a decade ago, I had completed more than 1,000 hours of training. Unfortunately, anyone can call themselves a therapist without any training. Do not put your mental health in the hands of amateurs.

James helped me with my horse riding anxiety after a bad fall. I really appreciated his open, forthright approach. I have had an excellent result. I have just returned from a week of horse riding abroad and can honestly say that ‘horse behaviour’ that would have terrified me beforehand (e.g., horse refusing to walk forward and backing up close to a cliff edge) I was able to deal with in a cool, confident way that I know I am capable of. I feel that James really put the effort into the session and as a result has helped me enormously.*

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to your most common queries about treating anxiety here.

Hypnotherapy works by gently 'rewiring' the mind so that it changes the way it reacts to whatever is bothering you. As an example, it can stop the brain from going into panicky 'fight or flight' mode when you're in a stressful situation.

It provides a safe haven from anxiety, stress and trauma, and in many cases, can eradicate the response you want to get rid of completely. In other cases, even being able to 'dial down' the response can make a significant difference to how well you are able to cope with life.

There are four main reasons people book a session with me over other hypnotherapists.

Experience: I have now completed more than 5,500 hypnotherapy sessions with clients from all over the UK and further afield.

Approach: I am personable, focused and easy to get along with. If we're not a good match, I'll say so, as I only want to work with people I wholeheartedly believe I can help.

Training: Before I saw my very first client, I had completed more than 1,000 hours of training. As I have added new tools to my skillset, this has now increased to more than 2,000.

Results: I am highly results-focused and want you to feel like you can move on from whatever is holding you back in the fewest possible sessions.

Anxiety is regulated by a part of your brain called the amygdala. It reacts to events that it rightly or wrongly perceives to be threatening. And you can’t simply turn this response off just by thinking about it.

When anxiety strikes, a reaction called the amygdala hijack automatically and unconsciously takes over.

Unfortunately, this reaction is often completely disproportionate to the ‘threat’ at hand.

Clinical hypnotherapy can help you feel better by giving the mind a new place to go the next time you're faced with a situation that currently bothers you. The goal is to swap your response – which can help eliminate stress-related headaches, worries, palpitations and panic attacks.

First and foremost, it directly targets the amygdala. The key here is that whilst other therapies, such as CBT, may try and reassure you logically that you’re OK, this approach doesn't silence the amygdala. This small but incredibly influential part of your brain will still react – leaping into panicky 'fight or flight' mode.

Some of the techniques I use, such as Havening, directly target the amygdala, helping you to be calmer.

One of the key benefits of anxiety hypnosis is that it is highly customised to you.

Unlike medication, which tends to be a one-size-fits-all solution once your GP has decided on appropriate treatment, an experienced clinical hypnotherapist will tailor your session to your precise needs.

This is exactly what I do for each client. We will discuss your background and anxiety triggers, the intensity of your attacks, and the outcomes you would like to experience.

Other benefits of hypnotherapy include:

  • It is very gentle and doesn’t involve you having to relive anxious experiences.
  • It promotes relaxation and stress control.
  • It promotes individual empowerment and control.

The hypnotherapy techniques I use target the amygdala directly, which is why they work. The events that currently trigger your anxiety are neutralised.

They lose their emotional power to impact you.

Because of this, you stop reacting in the way that you once did to the trigger event(s). This means you feel calmer and more in control. As a result, many clients report a reduction or a complete elimination of:

  • Panic attacks
  • Blushing
  • Trembling
  • Hyperventilating
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Headaches, muscle pains and digestive issues
  • Feeling nervous and on edge
  • Negative self-talk
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Feeling worried all the time
  • Catastrophising

During your session, I will also give you:

  • Tools to help you dial down any stress and anxiety you feel on an ongoing basis.
  • Techniques to help you change what you’re saying to yourself in your head. Your 'mental chatter' is probably negative and self-limiting at present – making you vulnerable.
  • The ability to fundamentally change the negative pictures you put in your own head of things going badly. When you do this, it's known as 'catastrophising'.
  • And I’ll give you some really useful and powerful techniques to help you imagine, maybe for the very first time, how you want to be when you next encounter a situation that typically makes you anxious.

This depends on your background and what we have used in previous sessions for anxiety (if you've had any). As well as clinical hypnotherapy, the four main tools at my disposal are Havening, Time Line Therapy, NLP and TFT.

I have enjoyed considerable success with all of these, both individually and in various combinations.

Given the current cost of living crisis, I am offering 10% off my standard fee. A potentially life-changing 1-1 session with me today costs just £290 +VAT per 90-minute session (most hypnotherapists' sessions are only 50 minutes long).

There is no extra fee for my pre-prep work, such as my analysis of your pre-session briefing questionnaire.

Additionally, every new client benefits from a free 20-minute consultation by phone.

Yes. Anxiety has many faces, and while different types of anxiety may appear quite distinct, they always come back to a fear or trauma of some kind.

For that reason, the anxiety hypnotherapy we offer is applicable across all kinds of anxiety, including:

  • Social anxiety – feelings of intense anxiety and discomfort when in the presence of others (or anticipating meeting people). Video and telephone calls may be an issue, too.
  • GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder) – everyday anxiety that can seem ever-present. You'll likely know that you just don't "feel right" any more.
  • Performance anxiety – such as when you anticipate having to speak up in a meeting or give a speech. Feelings of utter dread and fear can overwhelm you.
  • Relationship anxiety – the challenges of dealing with difficult family situations can cause serious emotional trauma. Avoidance is a common by-product – meaning you start avoiding specific family members or 'trigger' situations.
  • Separation anxiety – such as when leaving a loved one you are especially attached to. While more commonly seen in children, it can affect adults, too.

Rest assured, however, that your treatment will be 100% tailored to your unique circumstances.

Related to anxiety, I also offer specific treatment options for people who have PTSD, phobias, panic attacks and confidence issues.

Hypnotherapy is a type of guided therapy that helps people to achieve a state of calm and focus. During a session, people may be more open to changes about how they respond to things.

Contrary to common myth, there is no pocket watch to gaze at before being 'put under'. Nor are you under your hypnotherapist's control.

People who have been to see a clinical hypnotherapist like me tend to report that they felt calm and in control throughout.

Importantly, they also noted their ability to adjust their response to certain things that have been bothering them.

The skill of the hypnotherapist in guiding people through these changes is, therefore, critical. To help lead clients to the best possible outcome, I bring my many years of experience, plus thousands of hours of training, to every session.

People sometimes think that anxiety hypnotherapy seems too good to be true – that there must be a catch. How can it possibly undo years of torment?

This is understandable, as this type of therapy is quite different to medication you would get from a GP.

While success can't be guaranteed, our own case files show that anxiety hypnosis is incredibly effective in many cases. That's because it helps to change any old thought patterns and deeply held beliefs you have that are holding you back.

People commonly report that their anxiety has been greatly reduced or even eliminated after one or two sessions.

Hypnotherapy works well with other types of therapy, such as mindfulness and relaxation techniques.

When you sign up for a hypnotherapy session for anxiety at Fix My Mind, you're making a clear statement to yourself – and any loved ones you care to inform – that you're ready to change. A commitment to mindfulness, for example, can be similarly motivational.

Commitment is an incredibly important part of the process, as belief is integral to successful hypnotherapy treatment for anxiety. All anxiety hypnotherapists agree on this.

While hypnotherapy may well turn out to be the 'magic wand' you were looking for, it can also be viewed as part of a wider, holistic approach to managing your wellbeing. It can work alongside other lifestyle changes such as diet and nutrition, fitness, breathing exercises and more.

Booking is easy – please just fill in the contact form, or call me on freephone 0800 122 3073.
